The green building workshop series will provide education and practical training to building professionals, homebuyers and homeowners to facilitate the design and construction of high-performance buildings for those who want to be in the forefront of the movement toward developing carbon neutral buildings.
Buildings of all types are responsible for 48% of carbon dioxide emissions in the US and could be carbon neutral by 2030 if we begin today to improve their energy performance according to architect Ed Mazria. A variety of green building programs are now available to people around the country formed in part as a recognition of not just the global environment but a recognition of market forces moving the building industry to recognize and address the impacts of the industry impact on the environment. These programs are a standardized voluntary third party rating system that encourage a comprehensive approach to home building, utilizing design and building techniques that minimize impact on the environment, reduce energy consumption and result in homes that are healthier for both the homeowner and the environment.
As the design and building industry move toward green building there is a need for training that the green building workshop series will provide. NC experts will present principles and strategies that will help design, renovate existing structures or build new high-performance and carbon neutral buildings. Accomplishing this educational task will require participation by all sectors of the building industry.
